It’s that exciting time of the year when kids and adults get ready to pack their bags for a fun-filled experience at summer camp. Are you ready to swap your everyday routine for unforgettable camp adventures? But first, let’s take a moment to talk about camp safety. It’s crucial to equip yourself with knowledge about local safety guidelines to ensure a secure, hassle-free trip. Here’s a comprehensive list of summer camp safety tips:
Before you send your child to a summer camp or even recommend it to someone else, do your homework. Research the camp thoroughly. A reputed camp organiser means it has met the essential health and safety standards. Don’t hesitate to check for testimonials and references from past campers. An open conversation about camper safety, staff training, and emergency protocols can be quite revealing.
When your child is at camp, the staff essentially become their guardians. So, it’s only natural to be curious about their qualifications. Ask about the staff-to-camper ratio, their training, qualifications, and experience. Check if the staff have undergone background checks. Ideally, there should be staff members who are certified in First Aid, CPR, and similar essential procedures. ES Camps staff have completed UK Safeguarding Training to ensure the utmost safety of the children on our international summer camps.
Given that it’s summer, sun and heat protection are vital. Make sure to pack good quality sunscreen (at least SPF 30) and use it on a regular basis. Hats, sunglasses, and light-coloured, long-sleeved clothing can offer additional protection. Hydration is equally important to prevent heat-related illnesses.
If your child has food allergies, communicate this information clearly to the camp organisers. At ES Camps, we ensure complete care for every student’s allergies and other dietary needs to provide healthy and safe food to students.
It’s always a good idea to get travel insurance before any trip. Make sure your insurance covers emergency medical expenses and is accessible without any hassle at the popular healthcare facilities.
Have local emergency numbers saved on your phone. For instance, the general emergency number in Dubai is 999 for the police, 998 for an ambulance, and 997 for the fire department. For non-emergency medical issues, you can dial 800-DOCTOR (800-362867).
While summer camps offer an invaluable experience for children and adults, ensuring a safe environment should be at the forefront of our planning. By being proactive and prepared, we can provide a secure space where everyone can have the time of their lives. So, let’s take these tips to heart, make safety a priority, and ensure that your summer camp adventure is filled with nothing but joy, growth, and wonderful memories.
