Ready to hear about two of New York City’s most unique outdoor spots? If you love a mix of nature, art, and stunning views, then you’re in for a treat. Let’s take a fun journey together to explore – The High Line and Little Island—two fantastic places that bring urban greenery to life. Whether you’re visiting for a vacation or joining our youth camp, these destinations are perfect to capture the essence of New York.
Have you ever walked on an old train track turned into a park? That’s what The High Line is all about! This elevated park stretches over 1.45 miles (about 2.3 km) through Manhattan’s west side. Imagine strolling through beautiful gardens, seeing cool art installations, and enjoying awesome views of the city—all at the same time.
The High Line wasn’t always a park. It used to be a railway for transporting goods in the 1930s. After it was abandoned, it became an overgrown jungle in the city. Instead of tearing it down, New Yorkers decided to turn it into a park. Cool idea, right? Now, it’s a favourite spot for both locals and tourists.
Here’s what makes The High Line a must-see:
One of the best spots to visit is the 10th Avenue Square and Overlook. Here, you can sit on amphitheatre-style seating and watch the bustling city below. It’s the perfect mix of peaceful and lively!
Not far from The High Line, you’ll find Little Island, a magical park built on the Hudson River. It’s not your regular park—it’s a floating island supported by 132 concrete “tulips”! This tiny island is packed with beauty and fun.
Little Island opened in 2021 and has quickly become one of New York City’s coolest attractions. Designed to look like a leaf floating on water, the park is a combination of nature, art, and entertainment. You’ll love how the space feels both relaxing and exciting at the same time.
Little Island is all about bringing people together. You can enjoy music, eat at the food carts, or just have a quiet moment surrounded by nature.
Now, here’s the exciting part! When you join our summer programs for high school students, you’ll have the chance to explore these amazing spots with friends from around the world. With ES Camps, we make sure your trip is fun, educational, and full of adventure.
