The Alcázar of Segovia – A Real-Life Fairytale Castle

The Alcázar of Segovia is one of the most beautiful castles in all of Spain—and maybe the world! Some say it inspired the castle in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. It sits high on a rocky hill, and when you see it from far away, it looks like it’s floating in the sky. Amazing, right?

Inside the Castle

When you step inside the Alcázar, you’re not just visiting a building—you’re stepping into a story. The rooms are filled with colourful walls, golden details, and giant windows. Imagine walking where Spanish kings and queens once walked!

  • Throne Room: See the big chairs where the king and queen sat. It’s royal and full of gold and red colours.
  • Soldiers’ Room: This room has suits of armour, swords, and old weapons. You’ll feel like a knight from long ago.
  • Tower of John II: Climb 152 steps to the top. It’s worth it! From here, you can see the whole city.

Feel the History

As you walk through the halls, you’ll feel the power of the past. You’ll hear stories of battles, brave knights, and smart queens. Every stone tells a story. For many students in our summer camps, the Alcázar is the most exciting part of the trip.

The Roman Aqueduct – A 2,000-Year-Old Wonder

Now let’s go back even further in time—more than 2,000 years! The Roman aqueduct of Segovia is one of the oldest and best-preserved Roman structures in the world. It’s made of huge stones—but here’s the incredible part: there is no glue or cement. It’s all perfectly balanced using just gravity!

When you stand under its tall arches, it feels like time stops. It’s a place where you can touch history with your hands.

What You’ll Experience at the Aqueduct

  • Take in the View: Walk along the plaza and look up—it’s a giant stone bridge in the air!
  • Feel the Stone: Touch the same stones Romans placed thousands of years ago.
  • Learn the Legend: There’s a local legend that says the devil built the aqueduct in one night to win a girl’s heart. But when you learn how it was really built, it’s even more amazing.
  • Snap the Perfect Photo: Day or night, the aqueduct is picture-perfect. At night, lights make it shine like magic!

You’ll also see musicians, performers, and lots of happy people enjoying the plaza around it. It’s one of the best places in Spain to just stop, smile, and feel the joy of travel.

Immersive Spanish Learning

At ES Camps, we believe the best way to learn Spanish is by living it. Our Spanish learning summer program in Madrid includes fun trips like Segovia, where learning happens naturally through exploration and interaction.

How You Learn in Segovia:

  • See and Learn: When you see something new, your teacher helps you say it in Spanish.
  • Ask Questions: Practice real-life conversations with guides and friends.
  • Taste and Talk: At lunch, try Spanish food and learn the names of what you’re eating in Spanish—like “cochinillo” (roast pig) or “churros con chocolate”!

It’s fun, it’s friendly, and it helps your Spanish grow every step of the way.

Whether you’re from Europe, Asia, the Middle East, or anywhere else, our camps international family makes you feel at home in Spain. This is not just a trip. It’s part of your summer school —a chance to live the language!
